LoiLoNote:collaboration and presentation made easy!By Patrycja DyszyLoiLo inc.email: patrycja@loilo.tv
1.What is LoiLoNote? LoiLoNote is a collaboration and presentation app for iPad to be used in the classroom settings. It allows users to combine various media (video, photo, recording, text, web browser, map, drawing and PDF file) into one project/presentation. However, more importantly, LoiLoNote is a powerful collaboration tool, that enables sharing whatever users wish in real time, as long as their iPads are connected to the same WiFi.
LoiLoNote takes students through the process:
→ Think on your own...
→ Organize and arrange your thoughts...
→ Discuss and brainstorm your ideas...
→ Come up with new insights and solutions...
→ Present your thoughts in a clear and simple way...
LoiLoNote facilitates:
team work
project based learning
creating multimedia presentation
brainstorming
research and investigation
organizing one`s thoughts
public speaking
There will be only one version of LoiLoNote, but three types of accounts, depending on the storage and administrative tools built it:
free
upgraded
school edition
2. How can I access LoiLoNote? LoiLoNote has yet not been released in the U.S., so the only way to install it onto iPad is by accessing LoiLo`s testflight app account and installing it from there. Just do as follows: 1. Enter testflightapp.com from Safari on your iPad. 2. To log in use: User: loilonote.new@gmail.com Pass: loilo1234 Then just follow the instructions on a screen to install the testflight app on your iPad (it's free) and then install LoiLoNote through it.
Caution: The only thing that you need to be careful about is that if you want to use the Tunnel feature, all the iPads which you would like to share some contents with, have to be connected to the same WiFi and have a note inside LoiLoNote open. Also, to import a PDF file into LoiLoNote, access the PDF file you would like to import from Dropbox. In the export options select "Open in LoiLoNote" and the file will be open in LoiLoNote automatically. Similarly, it is possible to open an email-attached PDF file in LoiLoNote.
3. How to use LoiLoNote in the classroom? We have just started beta tests in the U.S. The app is being used in few schools at the moment and we are in the middle of the process of collecting products created with LoiLoNote. We will be able to share some more American use cases in autumn.
Example 1 For the time being I would like to show you how LoiLoNote is being used in the Providence Day School in Charlotte. Follow the link below and watch the forth video titled "Cole using LoiLo Note - Mrs. Scully's 6th Grade English": https://sites.google.com/a/providenceday.org/ipads/home/student-examples
In this English class LoiLoNote was used for novel and character`s analysis.
Example 2 The second example pictures how the app is being used by 6th graders in Paideia School in Atlanta. David Millians` students worked on a multi-slide presentation of a self-researched topic about Ancient Egypt. "The primary goal of the activity was to present an organized, clear presentation about the student’s topic," says David. "Students had a great time exploring the possibilities of LoiLo Note, importing media, linking notes. In the end, each student gave a presentation to the rest of the class and also sent their final presentation to me through a tunnel." A part of a project was to "create (...) individual tomb inscriptions at the end of the year. Students used text and images to create cards for different elements of the standard kinds of statements, things like, "Overseer of Cookies, the Beautiful One Has Come, Samantha, May She Rest in Peace." They translated all of their ideas in to Middle Egyptian and wrote them out in hieroglyphs, both of which we've been studying all year, so the actual Egyptian parts were mostly images imported into LoiLo Note. (...) There was plenty of variety among the basic inscriptions, and then each kid added other cards with English text and images in order to create their unique "tomb wall decoration" that would include everything that was important to them." Above that, in Paideia School students use LoiLoNote to take notes, make multi-media flash card for studying. Other ways to use it in a classroom:
Classroom Learning Management (PDF import and Tunnel): sharing worksheets, templates & tests with students, providing them with corrective feedback & assessment
Every class: brainstorming, project based learning, researching, investigating & creating multimedia presentation, using as a summary board for material revision before a test
5. MINI-TASK In pairs create a short multimedia presentation on whatever you think is worth talking about! it might be your hobby, experience, family, a current topic etc.
About the project:
make sure that your project contains video/picture card, text card, web card, map card and drawn card
to brainstorm and share contents with your partner use a tunnel
towards the end of the activity send me your presentation via a tunnel
6. Reflection
At the end of session please be prepared to share a project you have created with LoiLoNote and brainstorm other ideas (besides the ones listed above) for using LoiLoNote in your classroom. For this activity we will also use LoiLoNote!!!
